| dc.description.abstract | With the idea of globalization and competition in all industries of business, to accomplish their goals and objectives, FBOs healthcare institutions, like other organizations should think strategically. In this perspective, FBOs healthcare institutions need key management ideas to improve their performance. The research’s aim was to determine the effects of strategic management practices on FBOs healthcare institutions’ performance in Kajiado County, Kenya, leading to their financial sustainability and competitive advantage. The specific objectives of the research were to establish the effect of environmental scanning, to explore the effect of strategy formulation, to determine the effect of strategy implementation and to determine the effect of strategy evaluation on the performance of FBOs healthcare institutions in Kajiado County. This research was anchored on the following theories and modelsː Porter’s five forces model of industry competition, resource-based view theory, stakeholder theory and balanced scorecard model. Independent variables of this study were scanning of environment, formulation of strategies, implementation of strategies and evaluation of strategies, while performance of FBOs healthcare institutions in Kajiado County was the dependent variable. The target population of the study was composed of 97managers of different levels drawn from 6 FBOs healthcare institutions operating in Kajiado County, which are St. Mary’s Mission Hospital, Rombo Mission Hospital, Fatima Mission Hospital, Father Adriano Bonfanti Catholic Health Center, Assisi Nursing Home, and St. Peter Clever Roman Catholic Healthcare. The total population sampling method was utilized in this study, which is a technique of purposive sampling where the entire population is interest of the study. The research’s sample size was of 97 respondents. Data collection instruments were validated to evaluate their relevance, clarity and reliability. To test the questionnaire’s reliability and validity, Cronbach’s Alpha method was employed using a pilot study of 10 respondents. Descriptive and inferential statistics generated by SPSS software computer version 2023 were utilized to analyze quantitative data and qualitative data was analyzed using thematic analysis. Descriptive statistics (mean and standards deviation) were utilized to summarize data, while inferential statistics helped to ascertain the relationship between variables. The data was displayed and presented by graphs and tables and interpreted for drawing conclusions and recommendations of the study. The findings of the research revealed that all four strategy variables, environmental scanning, strategy formulation, strategy implementation, and strategy evaluation, showed statistically significant positive associations with FBOs health institution’s performance. Regression analysis for each independent variable showed strong and significant association with correlation coefficients of .922 with p- value <.001 and R= .854 for environmental scanning, .862 with p-value <.001 and R=.852 for strategy formulation, .845 with p-value<.001 and R= .817for strategy implementation and .884 with p-value <0.001 and R=.806 for strategy evaluation. Environmental Scanning had the strongest individual effect on performance of any variable in the single predictor model, as measured by Pearson r (.922) and Beta weight (.854). The study concluded that environmental scanning, strategy formulation, implementation, and evaluation, have a substantial influence on the performance of FBOs healthcare institutions in Kajiado County, Kenya. Recommendations of the study were: to broaden their environmental scanning to encompass political, legal, economic and ecological factors, to involve employees and key stakeholders in strategy development, to strengthen reward mechanisms to increase employee engagement, to enhance evaluation teams and feedback systems to changing healthcare conditions. A study for the assessment of management practices and stakeholders’ impact on FBOs health institutions in Kajiado County, Kenya or other Counties was recommended by the research for further study. | |
